Call him Mini-sota Fats. An upstate New York two-year-old is being dubbed a billiards prodigy by dazzling crowds across the country with his pool playing prowess. Keith O’Dell Jr. of Johnstown was invited to perform at the American Pool Association’s championship competition in Las Vegas last month, and he’s booked to show his skills on the Rachael Ray show in July. The wiz kid learned the game on a child size table, but recently switched to regulation size. He reaches the balls by standing on a chair. It all started a few weeks before Christmas when the boy’s parents, Keith Sr. and Courtney O’Dell, were in a discount store and saw a miniature pool table. Keith Sr., an avid player, thought his son was too young to enjoy it, but bought the table anyway. Keith Jr. opened it Christmas morning and surprised his parents when he started shooting on his own. The O’Dells have no explanation for their son’s success, but say he learned by watching his dad shoot 200 racks every night. His parents say the boy’s learning hasn’t been limited to billiard games – pool is also teaching their son colors and how to count. Outside the cue sports industry, pocket billiards is almost exclusively referred to as “pool”, due to a perhaps unfortunate association with the “poolrooms” where gamblers “pooled” their money to bet remotely (“off-track”) on horse races. Because these venues often provided billiard tables, the term “pool” became synonymous with billiards. Though the original “pool” game

@ElliottsFather Sorry you hate America so much. You should do some research on this boy before you make comments. He is now 3 years old and holds 2 world records and has 5 sponsors. He can Jump a full ball and do 3 and 4 rail kick shots.

There is nothing special about this kid. Actually, the kid looks a little slow if you know what I mean. The shots were so easy, any 2 year old could make them. Dad is just a loser who wants attention. Rachel must have had a cancellation to have this little twirp and his loser dad to be on the show.

@littlesniper07: If you are the father of this kid, I just want to say this: After watching this clip about what your wife was saying on how she researched about there was no other young child to ever touch a cue…. I really would kind of do more thorough research on one particular person… his name is Shane Van Boening. :) He touched a cue when he was aprox. 1 1/2 yrs old. I could be wrong, but I would definately take the risk to ask him. Nevertheless, you got yourself a little shark there.

I like it quit a bit, because I knew buying it that it was probably going to be slow (kind of boring), but hey was pool ever really fun?! This game is a simulation of Pool. It really does a nice job representing the Playstation2 graphics (the back grounds, and so on…) It also has a very large range of games in it….a total of 10! Now if your a fan of playing pool, and you have the time for an hour or two of game playing, then this game is for you. You’ll probably get bored with it, but people get bored with “real-life” pool too, after awhile. I’d recomend this game to anyone who wants to pop in a pool game and play for an hour.

I am totally hooked on this game. It takes a little getting used to the controls, but after you play a game or two you should be able to shoot like a pro. I have been playing this game for 5 days straight. The graphics look almost real and it feels like you are really playing pool.

I was expecting better. I’m a big fan of Yahoo! pool and was hoping this was like that but sadly it’s no where near as good. Sure, the graphics are great but that’s the only thing good about this game. The first bad thing I found was the camera. There’s really no good camera angle you can use for the entire game. Often times there wont be any good camera angel for a shot. You’ll have you blindly shoot and hope the ball goes where you want it to. If you move the camera too far away you wont be able to tell the balls appart. Also, the balls fly around the table very unrealistically. Is there grease on the table? The music in this game will have you falling to sleep. Best to mute your TV and turn your own music on. Overall, it’s a good game if you don’t have a computer or real pool table. But if you have either of those avoid this game.

This issue is badly out of date. Useless at this price., January 30, 1999

The current issue was released in late 1998 and it includes many rules changes from the offered issue. At the right price, it would be useful for those wanting an excellent recent history of the games played.

    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

Every bar, tavern, club and hall with a pool table (in the US) should have a copy of this on-hand. The horrendous inconsistence and outright ridiculousness of most local and house “rules”, not to mention individual “rules”, has made a sorry mess of recreational American pocket billiards. I can only hope that the REAL games of 8-ball, 9-ball, etc., become better known to amateur players over time, and that the bogus, corrupt, yokel variants of these games finally die off some day.

This review is from: Swirl – Marble Style Pool Table Billiard Ball Set (Misc.)

I purchased this billiard ball set for my husband for Christmas and he is quite conservative, so I wasn’t sure he would like the idea of ‘swirls’ on them…. But, he loves them and they are really cool to play with..very neat design as they spin across the pool table. It is such fun to switch them out from the ordinary ones and I plan on looking for more designs, just to mix things up with the game. Not that I would tell him, but the swirls actually help me ‘line up’ my shot!! haha!! I can get a close look and step back and remember the ‘edge’ of the exact swirl! Too funny! Great purchase. Enjoy!
