Question by Andy A: Can you explain why a snooker ball will eventually stop all sliding and start purely rolling along a surface?
Best answer:
Answer by goober
As the ball slides, the friction with the table exerts a torque on the ball and starts it to roll a bit. The distance that the ball slides decreases as the ball rolls more so sliding imparts less rotation to the ball until the ball is rolling and not sliding at all.
