what the weight is doesnt matter. how the weight feels to you is all that matters. i have played snooker for 25 years to a good standard and prefer a heavier cue but i have no idea what its weight is. go to a snooker shop with a snooker table in it and try several cues till you find the one you want whether it be heavy or light and the actual weight in grammes becomes irrelevent. all decent cues can perform all shots, it is just a matter of personal preference.

  1. The average weight of a snooker cue is 16 1/2 ounces, but your best bet is to try several in your club to ‘feel’ which weight suits you best.

My cue for example is 17 ounces, most people settle for between 16 and 18 oz.

Don’t worry too much about the make or the cost, try the one that ‘feels’ right for you. Joe Davis my hero bought his cue second hand because it felt right, it cost him 7s and 6d (35p) and he used it for fifty years.

Here’s my cue in my left hand, the chap on my right? the ‘Nugget’.

you need the length to exceed your reach and it feeels good and well balanced in you hand, as you get stronger you can change the end piece for heavier weight if meeded………………………………………………
my first stick was a long gawdy 27 , when i got use to playing i got a heavier base to make mine a 35.
