Snooker is a much more difficult game.

Snooker is a gentlemens game, played by Europeans and Canadians. Pool is for the animals in the USA.

if you’re a starter, i would say that pool is easier (smaller table and bigger pockets) but as you get better and understands the game more, you will see that pool is way more of a mental game than snooker … i think americans have the edge in pool while europeans are better in snooker …

    snooker – stephen hendry
pool – who else? efren “bata” reyes

All of the pool variables, like table size and or size of balls or type of games equal out in difficulty in pool. Bigger tables require to be more of a shot maker. Smaller tables require to be more of a shape player. Some games require to play more defence,or more of a banker ect. Playing pool is like life learn to adapt to the enviroment. The key to being a great pool player is go for the money. Its not like the movie the Hustler to play the best. Learn to match up with people you know you can beat and take the money and run. If you sit around and listen to how much some professional pool made last year your going to end up picking up the tab for the drinks.

the problem with this question is which version of pool are we talking about? 8 ball, 9 ball, straight pool, one pocket … there are something like 500 officially recognised versions or derivatives of “pool”

its generally agreed that one pocket pool is the most difficult version of pool as it is far more strategic than snooker since each player can only pot balls in their designated pocket

in terms of popularity americans prefer 9 ball whereas europeans prefer 8 ball but there have been a lot of european 9 ball world champions and i can’t think off the top of my head of any american 8 ball world champions

probably the greatest one pocket player was wimpy lassiter and in snooker id go for stephen hendry

In general I think snooker is much more difficult to play than pool. Smaller balls , Smaller pockets , Larger table etc. etc.. Most of the players I know that are fairly good snooker players are top notch at pool. That in itself tells me something.
I would have to look at the Mosconi cup to compare the best european and american pool players and we know the americans have been the champions in that regard over the past few years. I would have to say that the players from the phillipines have been dominating the pool world recently though.
2 world class players……..Steve Davis and Johnny Archer right off hand
