@cueman1969 this clip was done to correct a clip posted by someone else who didn’t understand check or running side and i didn’t want beginners getting poor coaching and the wrong information……….thanks for the comment

just started watching these vids cant understand what the fuss is about check and running side -check does 2 things -narrows the angle and slows the cue ball down running does the opposite

Yeah, the way I see it is:

Based on the angle of line of the cue ball into the cushion and out of the cushion – If this angle is more acute (smaller angle) than would be expected with no side, then it’s check side. If this angle is more obtuse than expected with no side, then it’s running side.

thank you alang………..i hated geometry@ school…….lol ………alls i know is if it extends away from the line its running or goes back towards it line its check ……simples………the simple mistake made in the other clip is that hitting the other side of the cueball isn’t always check if the cueball is taking a different path……..glad you liked and understood it neil

Funny, the second I saw that “checkside” shot on ‘Snooker Tips’, I was very surprised. He strikes the ball so much better than me, but doesn’t understand check. It’s pretty simple geometry.

Thanks for these videos. A very good watch for people trying to improve their game.

having trouble understanding the difference between check and running side i see how the work and could draw the lines but if the cur ball is travelling left of the target ball is right side check and left side runnung

you’ll find that tournament balls are lighter than in the clubs ………aramith are a shade lighter than super chrystalite ……..the problem with club tables is the cloth ..alot use heavy duty because its harder wearing and cheaper, because its thicker and heavier the downside is it makes it harder to do thing with the white ………thus needing more cue power

snooker balls are like anything, expense usually indicates quality. tournament balls are often a lot heavier than club balls which makes putting any sort of side on the cue ball more difficult and so more cue power is needed to do anything with the white

does it matter what balls you use
like tournament champion or just cheap ones?

what i have done is copied the set up and also said when the shots are being played properly ………..however what i have also done is corrected errors and put them right in this clip …….i.e running , check and plain ball striking explained properly……..try them on your table to see if its right or not ………..thank you for your comments i apprieciate honesty
