  1. @DrClawizdead hi there, yes you are correct in your description, also If you happen to have acess to the snooker (BBC2) on the 12th of Jan/2011 (1H:29M) in the interval between frames played by Neil Robertson & Steven Hendry, an ex world champion (John Parrot) actually takes questions & during this session clearly explains the difference & how it should be played on the table. Strangely enough it is the same way as I have explained it in many videos, sorry for replying twice . cheers, Kevy.

  2. @DrClawizdead Hi there, thanks to everyone for taking the time to post a comment.
Unfortunately youtube users who seemed to have a problem with either the way I described the shot, or the way I played it , seem to have removed their comments …. weird that ?
According to the post figures (which only the poster of the video can see) there were 24 comments, there are now only 18? … & I haven’t removed any comments. So cheers again for posting..Kevy

    This is checkside english.

Runningside english is english that goes with the ball’s natural travel (which would be right after this shot.) The left hand checkside english is what kills the ball keeping it near the black.

If left was the runningside that ball would have spun towards the toprail after contact with the siderail.

  4. @pool1184 I consider his way checkside as is into the angle not away from it. But then again I call spin, english. :P

@pool1184 no this is definately check side. running = widen the angle, check = sharpen the angle

  6. no problem bollowski , you probably have a slight audio delay on the video, don’t worry ,check 45 seconds then jump to 55 seconds & you will see that the 2 positions are in fact the same, the main thing to watch is the stroke itself, around 10 o’clock med strength , between 1/2 ball & 3/4 ball to the corner, potted to the left …I have made many checkside videos, if you still find this tough, message me & I’ll send you some others to watch…K

  7. I’m a little confused, at about 48 secs in you mention a bit of left hand side and move thw cue to the right as you say it. i take it you are hitting the ball to the left.

Cheers mate i always struggled with this ones. I just bought my self a new snooker cue off Ebay i hope its ok :P It’s a Pro. 4 pcs Handspliced Maple Snooker Cue and it comes with a free nice case with an extention too. Got it for £62 including postage so it’s an average price for a good cue.

  9. Hi there,
Just for reference I checked Jimmy White’s book , Snooker Masterclass & found what you will need in there on page # 21 titled “if you must you must” shows in detail with diagrams , playing with checkside … it is almost the same as my pink shot, ( but shown to hold for a red ) fig:6

I must stress that I’m trying to help, but will understand if you choose to ignore my advice .

    regards to everyone, Kevy

    whoops!
watch some of Kevy’s other videos , in which he clearly explains how to play with side & you will soon see that Kevy is right.

right side would be running side & not check, because it would widen the angle following contact with the pink.

LEFT side or in this case checkside HAS been applied, because you can see the angle has , in fact, narrowed.

watch ” snooker tips #16″ & others he has made to confirm my statement ; )

Del Hill has made one on side too.

  11. h i kev

i appreciate all your videos, but on this i have to point out an error.
left hand side on that shot is running side, check side would be striking the cue ball on the right.
i play myself at a quite high standard (-25 hc) and i can assure you that this shot to check it off the cushion is to be played with right hand side.

  12. great guide kevy, i’ll be practising this shot when i’m next on the table, cheers.

if he played that with running side, the cue ball would have gone up towards the baulk area. check side narrows the natural angle that the cue ball would come off the cushion at. professional coach for 12 years? what?!

got to disagree he is playing with check side, i.e. narrowing the natural path of the cue ball, and everything else he says is true as well, where he talks about the throw of the cue ball before it contacts the pink, this type of shot is an experience type of shot where you get to feel the shot, and becomes much easier the more you practice it

sorry pauljn147 you not even close to being correct there! i agree with clevertrevor01

  16. ignore that mug ;) I thought it was perfectly gd and its come in handy on many acations, lovin the music on the clipS

  17. wow there donkey!

I was asked to show the shot the way “I played it” !

ie: with checkside into the right side cushion stopping the cueball’s natural path towards the blue spot & holding/gaining position on the black to the left corner pocket.

If i wanted to play this the easy way, I would have just sent the cueball accross the table twice & played the black into the same pocket as the pink!
    .
(but that was not what i was asked to show)
    nuff said!

  18. hi there, actually you need to be aiming to the right of the centre (or potting angle) of the object ball, this is to allow for the throw of the cueball, which will swing out to the left before coming back in to make contact with the pink, it’s best to practice this shot a lot, mainly because even the speed with which you deliver the cue will change the amount the cue ball will throw. (tough shot) …….K

hmm thats wat i 4t bt i 4t that if played wiv left hand side the ball wud speed up off the cushion and go off at a wider angle. anyway if ur putting left hand side on do u have to aim a bit to the left?

  20. hi there, sorry to confuse you,
If you were to play it with right hand side (running side) would have been applied, making the cue ball run away from the cushion.

  21. February 23, 2011

    doiwantsomerandom

:S im reli confused. i wudve 4t playin wiv right hand side wud stop the ball dead

  22. hi there, the object ball (pink) is potted to the left, so the cue ball’s natural path away after contact is to the right, into the cushion, but by the application of left spin to the cue ball, the cushion then acts as a brake, basically reversing the direction of the cue ball. it sounds complicated, but is much easier to play than it sounds.

    clevertrevor01

    pauljn147, you’re sooo wrong!

if you play a cut to the left, then the cue ball has to go to the right (natural angle) so if as in this case, the cue ball’s natural path of direction is changed by the use of left hand side, (checkside) has been applied!
